Alcohol Drug Rehab
Not all clients that enter a drug rehab program require
alcohol or drug rehab with medication. The general rule is that the greater
the age and levels of usage, the greater the need for alcohol drug rehab. Persons
that drink daily to excess may require alcohol detox with medication. This is
to ensure medical stability and safety during alcohol or drug detox. Depending
on many factors, alcohol or drug rehab phase of a drug treatment program may
last from 3 to 14 days. Medications administered for alcohol and drug detox
vary and are required to ensure safety and comfort during detox. Upon completion
of alcohol or drug detox, clients may begin residential or outpatient treatment.
Alcohol rehabilitation is most effective when done
in an alcohol detox or drug rehab center under the supervision of a doctor.
Medications are generally prescribed in drug rehab for alcohol detox. There
are several reasons for this. First of all, Alcohol detox without medical monitoring
can be dangerous. Daily alcohol use causes physical dependence. Persons that
are physically dependent on alcohol must drink daily in order to ward off withdrawal
symptoms. These symptoms include seizure, vomiting, hallucinations, high blood
pressure, and anxiety. Although hallucinations are among the most disturbing
of the symptoms of alcohol detox, it is in fact seizures which put people at
the greatest risk of injury or death and require admission to drug rehab.
